Training Methodology

The training method in all of REACH's training programmes is participant/problem-based and needs-centered. The central aspect of this method is the presentation of problems placed within the context of every day experience. Lectures, case studies, group presentations and discussions will be used to reinforce this training method.

Module 5

Delivering and Managing Culturally Competent Services

At the end of this training module participants will be able to:

  • Acknowledge and appreciate the role of cultural diversity in BME communities and effective management of culturally viable and feasible health services.
  • Develop cultural skills needed by professionals and specialised organisations in providing culturally competent services to people from BME communities.
  • Identify the 'growth-negative' and 'growth-positive' culture sensitive factors within the BME communities.
  • Develop culturally sensitive interpersonal relationships and team-building skills within the BME communities for problem identification, problem solving and decision-making.
  • Have the knowledge, skills and attributes required to developing cultural competency within the BME communities.
  • Understand the processes involved in achieving cultural competency in the workplace.
  • Understand the common barriers to cultural competency care.
