Training Methodology

The training method in all of REACH's training programmes is participant/problem-based and needs-centered. The central aspect of this method is the presentation of problems placed within the context of every day experience. Lectures, case studies, group presentations and discussions will be used to reinforce this training method.

Module 4

Public Health of Black and Minority Ethnic Communities: Who and What can make a difference?

At the end of this training module participants will be able to:

  • Acknowledge and appreciate the role of cultural diversity in BME communities and effective individual and group commonalities and differences for health services.
  • Develop cultural skills needed by professionals and specialised organisations in providing appropriate and effective services to people from BME communities.
  • Identify the 'growth-negative' and 'growth-positive' culture sensitive factors within the BME communities.
  • Develop culturally sensitive interpersonal relationships and team-building skills within the BME communities for problem identification, problem solving and decision-making.
  • Understand health inequalities.
  • Analyse and understand factors that that promote or hinder health equality.
  • Understand the current state of policies with regards to health inequalities in the society.
  • Understand the role of the different players (GPs, Pharmacists, Nurses, Health professionals) in Public Health management.
