Culturally Sensitive Service Provision Unit (CSSPU)

The aim of CSSPU is to provide culturally sensitive and accessible services for the BME communities.

We provide culturally sensitive services to all the members of the Black & Minority Ethnic communities, within the following age ranges:

  • Elderly people aged 55 years and over.
  • Mid range adults aged 24-55 years old.
  • Young people aged 16-23 years old.

Culturally Sensitive & Appropriate Services

The 2001 census reported that Greater Glasgow & Clyde NHS Board (formerly known as Greater Glasgow NHS Board) had a population of 867,150, 4.5% (39,318) of whom came from BME community. This constitutes the largest proportion of any NHS board area in Scotland and it leads to the need for a culturally competent service to take care of the health needs of BME people. REACH Community Health Project is a leader in providing services which are culturally sensitive to the members of minority communities.

REACH Health Fair

Culturally Sensitive Service Provision Unit forms the combined area of focus of REACH's triangulated formula, by ensuring that the Black & Minority Ethnic community have access to culturally sensitive and appropriate clinical services. It is imperative that a holistic health approach is encouraged in order to allow individuals to understand and manage the impact of ill-health.

REACH has been providing clinical and holistic health services to the Minority Ethnic communities since its inception in the year 2000. The services provided are needs based, judged through research carried out by REACH in partnership with other bodies. In addition we have seen a surge in the number of users; furthermore the difference these services have made to the lives of numerous users gives us great pleasure and motivation to carry forward our mission.

REACH has a policy of working in partnership with other services providers both within the mainstream and voluntary sector. This is considered as being paramount in avoiding duplication of services and thereby making the best use of resources for the benefit of the communities.
