Mental Health Issues amongst Muslim Women Residing in South East Glasgow CHCP boundary: A Study of Their Beliefs, Knowledge and Service Access Issues.

Current Work to Date:
- An advisory committee has been formed with a member from the Amina- the Muslim Women's Resource Centre, REACH team and a woman member of BME community.
- Literature Review was carried out to aid into the research, including the design of the questionnaires.
- As part of the qualitative research methodology interviews and Focus group sessions were carried out with the research participants from diverse BME Muslim women members.
- Data is being analysed and a draft report is being complied.
Status of the Research Report: Final Report Pending & a Launch date of the Report to be confirmed
Future Work
Depending on the research outcome REACH intends to develop culturally/faith sensitive services for Muslim women to educate service providers on mental health and mental health related issues.
Research findings would facilitate:
- To create awareness of the barriers Muslim women face in accessing mental health services.
- To encourage the empowerment of Muslim women and social inclusion via educating about mental health
- To make recommendations to service providers in tailoring services to meet needs of Muslim women
- To emphasise the importance of cultural and faith awareness as pertinent factors in service provision
