  • To provide a bridge between the new reforming structures of the NHS and Glasgow City Council and local BME communities.

Public Policy Active Citizenship (PPAC) Project

Funded by: The Big Lottery Fund (Main Funder) & Glasgow Community Planning Ltd (Partial Funder)

Time Period: March 2005 - July 2008

Current Work to Date:

  • Consultation process with policy makers, health and social care providers and BME community members for the formation of the PPAC Steering Group.
  • PPAC Steering Group set up consisting of individuals from academia and the mainstream and voluntary sector.
  • Cultural Competent Training Toolkit is being developed.
  • Continuing with the delivery of Cultural Diversity Training to health and social care providers.
  • Completion of Scoping Exercise looking at the training needs of BME Communities in regards to Public Participation Training.

Status of Training Toolkits: Still Pending & National Launch of Training Toolkits To be Confirmed

Future Work

It is anticipated that the research findings from the BME Men's Health Project will be fed into the PPAC steering group, which will then be incorporated in developing the following:

A) Public Participation Training Package for the BME Communities, this will be help to build the capacity of BME communities to effectively influence the policy makers.
B) Cultural Competent Training Toolkit for Health and Social Care Professionals to understand the diverse & specific health needs of the BME Community.

The PPAC project will transpire into a Public Policy Participation Forum (PPPF), which will facilitate to continue the ethos of the PPAC project. This forum will be coordinated by REACH and will provide a platform for BME community members, Policy Makers & Health and Social Care Providers and help to design and provide health and social care services tailored towards the needs of BME Communities.
