National BME Community Health Development Project

Funded by: Scottish Executive's Race Equality Integration and Community Support Fund (REICSF)

Time Period: November 2006 - November 2008

Current Work to Date:

Having completed a thorough investigation of BME community health needs within the Fife HBA, a report will be compiled and presented to Health Board representatives and other key stake-holders.

The report will be composed of an analysis of the findings in all core areas:

  1. The state of health services available to the local BME community.
  2. Research gaps that exist with regards to health-related studies of the local BME community.
  3. The needs exist around cultural diversity training for health care professional providing services to the local BME community.

It will also give relevant recommendations for enhancements in these three areas for the Fife HBA.

Status of Report: Final Report on Fife Pending & National Launch of Report To be Confirmed.

Future Work

During the course of the project, 3-phased programmes of BME community health development will be undertaken in each of the following Health Board Areas within the NHS Scotland:

  • Fife (completed and awaiting publication of report)
  • Highlands (currently being pursued)
