Research Title: The Health of Black Minority Ethnic Men Living in the City of Glasgow - Prioritising Needs & Identifying Barriers to Accessing Health Services
Aims of the Research
To investigate the health needs and health disparities of minority ethnic men living in the city of Glasgow in relation to their knowledge and understanding of health and barriers related to accessing health services.
Funded by: The Big Lottery Fund (Main Funder) & Glasgow Community Planning Ltd (Partial Funder)
Time Period: March 2005 - March 2008
Current Work to Date:
- BME Men's Health Advisory Committee set up consisting of health professionals from mainstream and voluntary sector.
- Secondary research was carried out in the form of a literature review.
- Qualitative research was carried out in the form of one-one interviews and with the dialogue of two distinct focus groups whose members consisted of local BME men (community group) and health care professionals (professional group).
- The compilation of the report is based on the findings and data culled from the literature reviews and the qualitative research.
Status of Research: Final Report is complete and the dissemination of the report is pending along with the National Launch of the report.
Future Work
It is anticipated that the findings and recommendations of the research report will contribute to the development of a framework for an accessible, community based, demands-led Men's Health Clinic.
