ship Project (PPAC)

The project aims to facilitate the process of Black & Minority Ethnic Community participation and engagement into the new policy and planning structures.

BME Men's Health Project

The main aim of the BME Men's health project is to increase access to appropriate preventative advice, information and services.

Cultural Diversity Training Health Unit (CDTHU)

The Unit will deliver Equality and Cultural Diversity Training to those particular organisations dealing with BME Community Health within the Mainstream, Voluntary and the Private sector.

National BME Community Health Development Project

A two year initiative which will involve undertaking a 3-Phased programme of BME Community Health & Development in a number of Health Board Areas across Scotland.

What is REACH?

REACH Community Health Project has been an innovator in the voluntary sector through its development of a triangulated approach to the health needs of the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) community at both the grass root and strategic level.

REACH's Triangulated Formula

Founded in 2001 by Shehla Ihsan REACH is dedicated to bridging the gap in healthcare services for BME communities across Scotland. REACH's vision is to see multi-cultural societies in which all people have equal access to appropriate health services. Its mission is to empower BME communities by ensuring that their health needs are fully met. In keeping with this, REACH strives towards working for the BME community from the young to mid-range age and older people in partnership with statutory, private and other voluntary organizations.

NHS Health Scotland supported by the Scottish Government have set up Ethinicity Health Research Stratedy Group in 2007. Since then the group produced a report and is out for consultations at http://www.healthscotland.com/documents/2890.aspx.  If you would like to respond to the consultation, please use the consultation proforma which can be found on the website next to the Report.  Completed proformas should be sent to susan.hendry@health.scot.nhs.uk by 8 December 2008 at the latest.

Promoting Equality Seminars:

Tuesday, 25th of November at 1.30 pm and Monday, 1st of December at 1.30.pm,

Organised by a partnership between West of Scotland Regional Equality Council and Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living. Both seminars will take place in  Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living 117-127 Brook Street  Glasgow, G40 3AP.

The aim of the seminars is to raise awareness of racial/disability equality and independent living amongst advisors from the public and voluntary sectors and also individuals from minority ethnic communities by taking part in one of the following workshops:

·        Raising awareness about disability equality, the social model of disability and the philosophy of Independent Living.

·        Raising awareness of racial equality and cultural diversity

We are welcoming representatives from organisations in the public and voluntary sectors who are in the position to provide advice to individuals minority ethnic communities who may benefit from knowledge of race/disability equality and independent living as well as individuals from minority ethnic backgrounds who can benefit from an increased knowledge on race/disability equality and independent living.
