REACH is unique in its field of work and has a dual role in both working directly with the BME community at the grassroots level while simultaneously working at the strategic level with mainstream and private sector organizations.

Grassroot Level Aims & Objectives

Grassroot Level Aim

REACH Community Health Project, at the Grassroot level aims to: reduce health inequalities, improve health outcomes and catalyse community development for BME communities living in Scotland.

Grassroot Objectives

  • To provide a range of good quality, culturally-sensitive services and preventative health programmes that reflect national priorities.
  • To influence mainstream policy and undertake innovative research that has a positice/active impact on key service improvement areas.
  • To provide cultural diversity training that assists and supports staff within mainstream, voluntary and private sector organizations working with BME communities to deliver needs based services.
  • To develop effective participation avenues and engagement methods with BME communities.

Strategic Aims & Objectives

Strategic Level Aim

REACH Community Health Project at the Strategic level aims to: reduce inequity in health, create an evidence base and influence health and Social Care policies in order to address the inequalities faced by BME communities living in Scotland.

Strategic Objectives

  • To catalyse change within mainstream services that are integral to providing services to BME communities.
  • To evaluate the efficacy of anti-discriminatory policy and practice that is endorsed by government and mainstream organization.
  • To contribute to the analysis and interpretation of information that assists in highlighting the health needs and health differences of BME communities.
  • To develop constructive relationships with other organizations that support the development and use of knowledge to create health benefits.
